Tomatoes need 1 to 2 inches of rain a week. Feel down about an inch of soil, if that feels dry give the plant a good drink.
Tomatoes in a container need more water and the pot should be checked every day during hot weather, feel down an inch and if that feels dry give it enough water that some water will come out the bottom.
