What is the difference between an annual and a perennial?

Annuals: Complete their lifecycle within one year (you need to buy them annually):

    • You plant the seeds, they flower most of the summer and die at first frost.

Perennials: Live for at least three years:

    • They grow back each spring, flower for a limited time (4-6 weeks) and herbaceous perennials die back to the ground in the fall while woody perennials (trees, shrubs, some vines) lose their leaves.
