When your bare root fruit trees arrive, open the package and plant as soon as possible. If planting cannot be done immediately, fruit trees can be stored in a cool area for up to 2 weeks.
- Keep roots covered with moist soil, sawdust or sand, and water as needed.
- If planting will be further delayed, trees should be “heeled in” by planting temporarily in loose soil.
- Never let roots dry out.
- The day before planting, place trees in water so that all roots are covered.
- Allow trees to absorb water for up to 4 hours.
