Canna bulbs are hardy in zones 8-11 and can be left in the ground in those zones.
If you live up north they will have to be dug up and stored for the winter.
- Cut the stalks back to the ground after they are blackened by the first frost.
- Dig about 12 inches from the plant to make sure you do not damage the rhizome and lift clump from the ground..
- Remove any foliage and shake off loose dirt and place in a dark place with good air circulation for a few days
- After the rhizomes dry store them upside down in peat moss, perlite or vermiculite for the winter.
